Tucson and Benson - Last Month in Arizona

The month of March has absolutely flown by this year. We spent our time between Tucson and Benson, Arizona.  While the heat was a bit much, we still got out and saw everything we intended to see.  


Tucson

We stayed at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base famcamp, Boneyard Vista. It was nice to be on a military base with all of the amenities; gym, commissary, PX, and a quick trip to the base vet so Beau could stay current on his vaccines.  The campground was right next to the aircraft storage facility known as the "boneyard".  There are approximately 4000 military aircraft retired here from every branch of service.

Mt. Lemmon

This was our first sightseeing trip in Tucson.  We went from 95 degrees in the valley up to 70 degrees in the mountains.

Patagonia Lake State Park

During our time in Arizona, our pup hasn't been able to play in the water.  So we made an hour drive to Patagonia Lake just for him.

Sabino Canyon Seven Falls Hike

We didn't plan this one very well.  We figured that on a Wednesday at noon, there wouldn't be many people visiting Sabino Canyon.  Boy were we wrong.  That place was packed.  Luckily, not many of them were hiking the six miles to Seven Falls.

Tombstone, AZ

This place has been on my must visit list for quite some time.  It was pretty cool to walk the streets of Tombstone.  As a side note, every shop/store that we walked into had the either the movie Tombstone or Gunfight at the O.K. Corral playing.  We had hoped to grab lunch at Johnny Ringo's, but they were closed.  We settled for Big Nose Kates and was not disappointed.

Roadside attraction "The Thing".  If your ever contemplating stopping at this roadside attraction near Benson on I-10, drive on past it and save yourself the $10.

Even Beau thought it was too hot to leave the shade. But he wants to be close to the hanging web of toys.

These were the gas prices in Winterhaven, California when we left the Yuma area.  We thought they were crazy then, but were are getting close to that diesel price now.

A Week In Star Valley Wyoming

  It's the first week of October and Corey and I just left the Heise Idaho area. Our plan is to avoid winter as much as possible as we migrate south. But, with Star Valley Wyoming in our path of travel and the history of my great-grandparents being some of the first to settle in this area, a visit was due. Here are some of our adventures while in Star Valley! Our base camp while in Star Valley was the Star Valley Ranch Resort in Thayne Wyoming. We rented a lot from a wonderful couple from the Virginia area. The lot had plenty of room to fit our 45-foot fifth wheel, side by side and truck. I can only imagine how busy this place is in the summer with golf, pickleball, and the pool/hot tub all within a five minute walk. We started our Star Valley visit with a hike to Periodic/Intermittent Spring in Afton. Lake Havasu City

After leaving St George Utah, it was time to head further south chasing the warmer weather.  That led us to Lake Havasu City, Arizona.   Our original plan was to stay at Lake Havasu City for 30 days and then move down to Yuma, Arizona.  But as time went on, we kept saying that a month wasn't enough to do and see everything that Lake Havasu had to offer.  Luckily, we had the opportunity to move our Yuma plans out a month, giving us time to really get to know Lake Havasu. We got to enjoy the Parker 400 offroad race, Winterfest, and the Balloon Festival during that time .  The resort we stayed at was the Havasu RV Resort on the North end of Lake Havasu. Amazing place with amazing people.  Already looking forward to next winter! We spent our first day in Lake Havasu visiting the downtown area, to include the London Bridge. Utah Visit: Antelope Island, Little Sahara, Rocky Peak, and St. George

After spending the month of September and the first week of October in Idaho, it was time for us to make our way to St. George, Utah.  Our reservations in St. George didn't start until November 1st, so we had some time to burn and took our time getting there.  Our first stop along the way was at Antelope Island, which is near our home in Layton.  It gave us the opportunity to have the grandkids come camp with us for the weekend.  While they didn't get to see any antelope, the bison and coyotes were out and about in numbers.  We stayed at the Antelope Island Bridger Bay Campground.  It didn't have power, but on the plus side, the bison could wander in as they pleased. There were always a couple hanging out our entire time there.  After our visit at home, we continued our way down south with a stop at the Little Sahara Sand Dunes to do some riding with family and friends.
