Montpelier Idaho to Belmont Hot Springs Utah

Image
After leaving Star Valley Wyoming, we stayed a few days just below the Montpelier Idaho Reservoir, at the elbow recreation area. I was a little worried if the fifth wheel would fit, as I have not been here before nor could I find much information about it online. I used google maps to measure the RV’s on the map. But, that doesn’t tell the whole picture or the road conditions. Luckily, there was a pullout on the highway next to the turn for our destination. After walking up the road about a half mile, I verified we would fit and we set up camp. Great spot to spend a weekend.   After getting the camp setup, it was time to take the dogs up for the reservoir for some much needed playtime. The reservoir's water levels were really low and the vegetation on the beach was interesting to say the least. We originally thought it was salt on the beach. I tried to identify it, but didn't have any luck with the AI features on my phone, so if you know what it is, please let me know.  It rea...

Civil Defense Caves Rexburg Idaho

Image
During the month of September, while in the Heise Idaho area, Corey and I decided to visit the Civil Defense Caves near St. Anthony. The idea behind these lava tubes was that during the cold war era they would be used as an emergency fallout shelter, among other things. We just had to drive out and see what these lava tubes looked like seeing that it was thought to hold 5000 people in an emergency. After a 45 minute drive, much of it down a red dirt road, we finally arrived. Apparently, these caves go about 3000 feet deep. No chance I was getting Corey to go that far in.    We are approaching the cave entrance, Corey is already nervous. As I adventure into the cave, Corey is happy right where she it! Lots of boulders to cross over at the start of the cave. I had to coerce her to go in for a picture! It took and hour and a half to get out there and back, plus the time spent in the cave.  Well worth it!  On to the next adventure.

A Week In Star Valley Wyoming

Image
It's the first week of October and Corey and I just left the Heise Idaho area. Our plan is to avoid winter as much as possible as we migrate south. But, with Star Valley Wyoming in our path of travel and the history of my great-grandparents being some of the first to settle in this area, a visit was due. Here are some of our adventures while in Star Valley! Our base camp while in Star Valley was the Star Valley Ranch Resort in Thayne Wyoming. We rented a lot from a wonderful couple from the Virginia area. The lot had plenty of room to fit our 45-foot fifth wheel, side by side and truck. I can only imagine how busy this place is in the summer with golf, pickleball, and the pool/hot tub all within a five minute walk. We started our Star Valley visit with a hike to Periodic/Intermittent Spring in Afton. Very nice hike through the changing leaves walking along the stream.   Its a steep scramble up to to where the water comes out and Corey said this is as far as she goes! T...
