Montpelier Idaho to Belmont Hot Springs Utah

After leaving Star Valley Wyoming, we stayed a few days just below the Montpelier Idaho Reservoir, at the elbow recreation area. I was a little worried if the fifth wheel would fit, as I have not been here before nor could I find much information about it online. I used google maps to measure the RV’s on the map. But, that doesn’t tell the whole picture or the road conditions. Luckily, there was a pullout on the highway next to the turn for our destination. After walking up the road about a half mile, I verified we would fit and we set up camp. Great spot to spend a weekend.  

After getting the camp setup, it was time to take the dogs up for the reservoir for some much needed playtime. The reservoir's water levels were really low and the vegetation on the beach was interesting to say the least. We originally thought it was salt on the beach. I tried to identify it, but didn't have any luck with the AI features on my phone, so if you know what it is, please let me know.  It really made the area look pretty cool.  

 

After verifying there were no algae blooms on the reservoir, it was time to let the dogs loose.

While in Montpelier, we visited the bank that Butch Cassidy robbed in 1891 and some of the related sites in the town. 

Unfortunately, the museum/bank was closed.  Apparently, the person that owns it has a day job and it was closed both days we went by.  

The legend behind this is that "Old Ephraim" was 10 feet tall and weighed 1100 lbs.  He was notorious for killing livestock and evaded capture for over a decade.  

Before our departure, we took a ride into the mountains. The color change happening is the mountains is just amazing.

Due to the weather, below freezing temps, and the possibility of snow, we left a couple days early. Next stop, Belmont Springs in Utah. We had a nice relaxing time after enduring the rain and wind from the evening prior.  As you can see by the pictures, there is a dusting of snow on those mountains behind me.  

104 degree water just isn't hot enough, but we did have the whole place to ourselves.

We are officially on our chase of the 70 degree weather and the only direction we will be going until winter is over is south! Next stop is Antelope Island to be close enough to visit family this week.
