Civil Defense Caves Rexburg Idaho

During the month of September, while in the Heise Idaho area, Corey and I decided to visit the Civil Defense Caves near St. Anthony. The idea behind these lava tubes was that during the cold war era they would be used as an emergency fallout shelter, among other things. We just had to drive out and see what these lava tubes looked like seeing that it was thought to hold 5000 people in an emergency. After a 45 minute drive, much of it down a red dirt road, we finally arrived. Apparently, these caves go about 3000 feet deep. No chance I was getting Corey to go that far in.

We are approaching the cave entrance, Corey is already nervous.

As I adventure into the cave, Corey is happy right where she it!
Lots of boulders to cross over at the start of the cave.

I had to coerce her to go in for a picture!

It took and hour and a half to get out there and back, plus the time spent in the cave.  Well worth it!  On to the next adventure.
